I think we can all agree that these are definitely uncertain times.
There’s chaos, confusion, fear, anger… We are a nation divided.
Gods word says that a house divided against itself cannot stand. And now more than ever, I think we are seeing a prime example of that in our country today. And that has a lot of people living in fear… So I wanted to speak to that in today’s blog and give you the tools to move past that fear and live in confidence and boldness in your faith.
Think back to the Israelites after they departed from Egypt. These people lived in fear wondering if God would provide for them. They even reverted back to the idea that they were probably better off in Egypt… which seems crazy to us now, but many times we’ll revert back to our old way of living because we doubt that God is faithful and will meet our needs. We try to take over and control our lives don’t we?!
God simply wanted the people to learn to trust Him, and because their faith waivered back and forth, basically a whole generation wandered in the wilderness. Let’s not be like the Israelites. We have to show the world our faith especially in times like this when Satan is hard at work bringing about chaos.
I’m not talking about faith in government or people or ideals… I’m talking about faith in a God who created all things and cares for his children more than we can even comprehend. Because if we put our faith in anything but Him, it’ll crumble right? Because God is the only thing that never changes. Politics changes, the state of the world changes, our money, our jobs, our relationships with people, they ALL change. So putting our security and faith in the things of this world means that our security will be ever changing. God is stable and everlasting. That is where our faith should remain.
Hebrews 11:6 says that without faith, it is impossible to please God. So how do we walk in that faith and actually learn to trust God?
First, we have to Remember! Remember his faithfulness through reflection. What has God provided for you that you that was once impossible? God consistently reminded His people to remember and reflect on His faithfulness to them. It’s easy to forget those things when we’re in hard times. But remember his grace, his steadfastness, his provision in times past. He’s not going to come through for us in times past and then be like welp, that’s all I had for you… youre on your own now. NO, God is never changing and He will always remain faithful to His promises.
So think back to the times when He came through for you, even if it didn’t look like the way you thought it would. Circumstances don’t typically turn out the way we think it should go because we are not all knowing and we don’t typically know what’s good for us. We’re not naturally good. God is…. So it makes sense that things don’t always turn out the way we think it should because it’s not what’s best for us. There’s many times where I’m like, thank you God that you didn’t give me what I wanted in that time of my life because it would’ve destroyed me. So think back to those times and his faithfulness to you. Remember His character.
Second, it’s time to repair your relationship with Him through repentance if you are living in sin consistently. Our sin does separate us from Him because we choose it and allow it to. And when we are not in close relationship or fellowship with Him, we fall prey to the enemy’s attacks and by our own evil devices. So, whatever you may be allowing to stand between you and the God who loves you, turn from it so that you can once again be close to Him and feel his safety and protection. He promises to give us peace, but we have to seek it out by staying in close communication with Him and putting his Word, His promises in our hearts. Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God (Romans 10:17).
When we seek out His promises and begin to take in this love story that’s in the Bible, it has the power to grow your faith. Allow that clarity and peace to enter your mind by holding tightly to His promises.
Lastly, look at the big picture. It’s easy to get caught up in the details and laser focus on all the problems we face or we see in the world. But think about and consider the purpose behind all of it. What is God’s ultimate purpose for us?! When things don’t go the way we want, what is God doing?
When we read the Bible and look at the whole story as one big picture it’s like a love story right?
We have creation, rebellion, and then redemption and salvation. So when we are faithless, we have to look at the whole book… God allows things to happen, but ultimately there is salvation and he saves us. That’s the big picture and that’s our own story. We grow up, we sin, we fall short over and over, and God is faithful enough to teach us and provide a way out and save us from ourselves. And if he proves this over and over again in the Bible, we have to realize that it’s not just stories…these were real people and real events… it’s real and we are no different from the people in the Bible. God always wins.. he always provides a way out, he always provides salvation. We are given victory regardless of when it looks like the enemy has won. That’s BIG HOPE because God always restores what is broken.. and that promise that faithfulness doesn’t exclude us in this very time.
Regardless of what is going on in this crazy world, God’s will , will be done. God does not change, he is ever faithful, he is just and will make things right. The big picture equates to hope.. and we have to hold fast to that hope and put our trust in the only one who remains the same yesterday, today, and forever.
Remember that we are finite. We look at the here and now and our understanding is extremely limited. God sees all , knows all, and that’s why our trust has to be in him. We have a guaranteed future of hope which gives us the ability to stop despairing and fearing what Satan is doing. It’s time to take our eyes off of the circumstances surrounding us and focus on the bigger picture of our calling, our future, and God’s deep deep love for his people that saves us from destruction.
We have to be the example. The world needs our faith. The world needs to see us trusting and hoping in the one who is everlasting and unchanging. If we can’t be that light for people, what hope is there in the world?!
My prayer for you is that you will rise up and answer the call to be bold in your faith. That you will be a beacon in this dark place and that you will seek to really know God and experience his faithfulness.
I hope you’re encouraged to seek out God and His promises today and that you’ll practice walking in faith, trusting that even when things are out of your control, you can give it to God and please him by your faith.
